CAPF Modernisation Plan Approved by Government

Government approves Rs. 1523cr for procuring weapons, upgrading IT infrastructure of CAPFs. Government led by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the scheme - Modernisation Plan-IV for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). 


Modernisation Plan-IV with total financial outlay of Rs.1,523 crore to be implemented by Ministry of Home Affairs under guidance of Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah. 
Implementation of scheme will equip CAPFS to improve overall operational efficiency/preparedness

What is CAPF ? 

Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFS) refers to uniform nomenclature of seven central armed police organisations of the India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Their role is to defend the national interest mainly against the internal threats.

The CAPFS include CRPF, BSF, CISF, ITBP, SSB, NSG and AR -

1. Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is mostly deployed for internal security duties and the fighting militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
2. Border Security Force (BSF) guards India's border with Pakistan and Bangladesh, besides also often handling internal security assignments.
3. Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) protects the Sino-Indian border.
4. Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) guards India's borders with Nepal and Bhutan.
5. Assam Rifles (AR) is deployed along the India-Myanmar border and for anti-insurgency duties in the northeast.
6. Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) protects vital installations like nuclear projects, airports and metro networks.
7. National Security Guard (NSG) is an elite counter-terrorism & security force.

Modernisation Plan

Modernization of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) is a continuous process as per their operational requirements. 
CAPFS are allocated funds for their modernization and improvement of efficiency through acquisition of latest state-of-art weapons, clothing, specialized vehicles and equipment.
Earlier funds were allocated under Modernisation plan 1/2/3.

Modernisation plan IV

The Government has approved the scheme - Modernisation Plan-IV for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in continuation of the scheme "Modernisation Plan-III for CAPFS.
The Modernisation Plan-IV will run from 01.02.2022 to 31.03.2026.
Modernisation Plan-IV for CAPFS with a total financial outlay of Rs.1,523 crore is to be implemented by the Ministry of Home Affairs under guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

What will be done

Under the plan, MHA will equip the CAPFS with modern state-of-the-art weapons and equipment as per their operational requirement, keeping in view their deployment pattern in different theatres.
Also, upgraded IT solutions will also be provided to CAPFS.
